Travel Back to Memorable Moments Seen at The Oscars

Once a year on a special night in late February or early March, the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) acknowledges the excellence of directors, writers, music composers, actors, actresses, and other professionals in the film industry at the Academy Awards.  The official Academy Award of Merit is the Oscar statuette which is why you might hear the event commonly referred to as “the Oscars.”  It is a night where from the comfort of our homes, we can appreciate the most captivating stories of the past year that visionaries of the film industry project for us on the silver screen.

Join us on a journey into the past to recap some of the most memorable moments seen at past Academy Award shows.  Watch the video below and allow yourself a moment to transcend across the line of reality into the beautiful world of cinema.

A look back at some of the most memorable moments at The Oscars.

The first Academy Award show, held as a private brunch at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in 1929, was far from the globally anticipated event that it is today.  Only 207 guests were in attendance where, back then, tickets valued at just $5.  It was an evening with little to no surprise at all about who the winners might be as the awardees were already privy to the results three months prior.  The following years changed the way people viewed this ceremony as it became less of a banquet, and more of a night filled with honorary tributes to lifetime actors, stand-up comedy and entertaining show stunts.  For the past 59 years, the world has been able share this televised experience with us to recognize the irreplaceable talent that comes together to create film.  Now, not only are the actors and directors honored at the ceremony, but the makeup team, the screenwriters and the post-production team who are the cornerstone elements in creating a visually stimulating work of cinematic art are honored as well.

Tune in this Sunday, February 26th on the ABC network to watch the 84th Annual Academy Awards show, which airs live at 7:00 p.m. EST and 4:00 p.m. PST.
