A stripped red-and-blue tie, a checkered coat, a grey suit, sunglasses and facial hair have served as men’s accessories during previous Golden Globe Awards. At this year’s red carpet, the men of cinema and television cleaned up nicely, and some went outside the black-tie tuxedo box to show off their fashion sense.
Over from movies, Silver Linings Playbook lead, and Best Actor nominee, Bradley Cooper looked stylish in “green” (eco-friendly not color). Cooper donned an environmentally friendly two piece tux designed by Tom Ford. To complete his look, and give it a formal touch, Cooper added black buttons to his crisp white shirt, matching cuff links, and a black bow tie.
Adding a splash of color, Argo director and star, Ben Affleck opted for a navy three piece Gucci tux, with a vertical notch lapel. A sexy, salt-and-pepper haired and full-bearded Affleck, even accessorized his hands with writing from his daughter for good-luck. It worked wonders for him, seeing as he won two of the night’s biggest awards–Best Director, and Best Picture, Drama. When it comes to a black tie a fair, men can add a vest to accessorize!
Speaking of winners, Best Supporting Actor (for Django Unchained) victor, Christoph Waltz, sported a perfectly tied bow tie, that complimented his lapel. And the buzzed hair cut and glasses added to his clean, handsome look. A few helpful tips: always make sure the bow is proportionate to the lapel, and short hair gives a cleaner look.
And of course, the always daring Robert Downey Jr., trades his Iron Man suit, for a custom-made stripped velvet coat. A sleek substitution for the classic tux, showing off his fashion flair!
Shifting over to the hunks of television, winner Damian Lewis and New Girl star Max Greenfield kept it chic. Lewis wore a form fitting number by Burberry, armed with black and gold cuff links, and a perfectly folded pocket square. (This square was folded in half once, then again and placed in the pocket.) Greenfield went with a classier shawl lapel tux and a bigger bow tie.
Blue eyed Brit, Benedict Cumberbatch, star of Sherlock, decided to wear a slim black tie to appear as slick and cool as his hair. Well done, Mr. Cumberbatch.
