Breakout star of Netflix’s critically-acclaimed hit, Orange Is The New Black, Laverne Cox was one of this year’s main honorees at The 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. Before her big night, Cox chatted with celebrity designer Charlie Lapson about her style, her make-up, and how she felt being there.
Thanks to her stylist, Christina Pacelli, the Orange Is The New Black actress radiated in a red crisscross halter top gown by Zac Posen. To finish her princess-like ensemble, Cox donned Kara Ross earrings, a Kenneth Jay Lane ring, a cuff from Roberto Cavalli, and shoes and a clutch by Jimmy Choo.
Laverne admitted to being star-struck as fellow honoree Jennifer Lopez, Oscar winners Lupita Nyong’o and Rita Moreno, and Ellen Page (X-Men: Days of Future Past) were among the attendees. “And Rita Moreno is next to me–I love her” shrieked Cox, having a total fan-girl. While it may be surreal to Cox, her recognition among dedicated peers is well-earned and well-deserved.
Oscar nominee Ellen Page, who recently came out, presented Cox with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award. The award is bestowed upon openly LGBT media members who promote equality. Page had another surprise for the trans actress: an appearance from her mother, Gloria.
To all those young LGBT individuals, Cox gave a short but powerful memo: their stories matter.
