On the biggest night in Hollywood, the world anxiously awaits to see who the next Academy Award-winning stars will be, but we can’t help but wonder: What are they wearing? A career-launcher for designers, The Oscars set the tone for award season fashion showcases. Red Carpet Tips gives you two big trends we are predicting for the 2015 Academy Awards and the designers to watch.
Old Hollywood Glamour
We have seen it all: sheer bodices, geometric shapes, plunging necklines. But, how could we forget about the simple elegance and beauty of the classic old Hollywood look? Think large, dramatic gowns with beautiful embroidery, tulle, sequins. As an ode to some of the original Hollywood starlets (Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly), we predict that the 2015 Oscars will feature gowns with larger-than-life silhouettes in shades of rich red, bright blue, and bold black. One designer we’re watching is Venezuelan designer Carolina Herrera, who is known for her beautiful gowns that feature full, billowing shapes.
All That Shimmers
This year, we are anticipating skin-skimming dresses in deep tones of amethyst, midnight blues, teal, and bronze with a sprinkle (or a shake!) of shimmer. Designer Monique Lhullier is a red-carpet favorite, with stars such as Reese Witherspoon, Halle Berry, and Rihanna donning her designs. Look for beautifully hand-crafted, sequined gowns with long sleeves and figure-hugging shapes that wonderfully frame the body.
