“Scene Stealer 2012” Rico Rodriguez shares his Fashion Tips

At the age of 13, Rico Rodriguez already counts among the big players in Hollywood, which was proven at the 2012 Young Hollywood Awards that took place on June 14th at the Hollywood Social Club. The Young Hollywood Awards act as the premiere destination for honoring the entertainment industry’s brightest crop of rising stars. In its 14th year, the  ceremony celebrated the best emerging actors, directors and entertainers in Hollywood, recognizing their work and shining light on names to remember. Rodriguez was given the Scene Stealer award in the Male category for his character Manny Delgado in the TV sitcom Modern Family, his biggest role so far. The award, which was also given to Nolan Gould, who stars in Modern Family as well, was presented by Rodriguez’ stepfather on-screen Ed O’Neill.

But Rodriguez didn’t only prove his talent, but also his sense of style at the awards show. He describes himself as a “shorts guy”, but for the purpose of the event his parents and his sister Raini Rodriguez, who is also an actress, helped him put his outfit together. He went for a mix of high and low fashion and paired his dark grey suit with red (his favorite color) high top Converse, which matched with his red tie. “I love Converse, I wear them all the time,” said Rogriduez. “But high tops, not low tops”, because he doesn’t like it when his socks pop out, he tells RCT.

According to Rodriguez he doesn’t share his character’s fashion style, as he is more the “tie wearing, loose top bottom” type and doesn’t wear ponchos like his character. He usually starts getting ready 30 minutes before an event, because it doesn’t take him long to be red carpet ready, but of course he has the support and help from his family, especially his mom. For Rodriguez it’s all about the perfect mix of high-end fashion and casual clothing, which he embodied at the Young Hollywood Awards show. “You gotta be comfortable, but yet look nice,” he says.
